Our Environmental Commitment

Original Copy Centre is committed to minimising the impact of our operations on the environment. We conform to all current environmental legislation and continuously strive to find new ways to reduce our energy usage and waste.

Carbon Emissions and Path to Net Zero We are actively measuring our carbon footprint by analysing every aspect of our business, from employee commutes to the energy mix of our electricity supplier. We consider the environmental impact of every process and are constantly adapting to become more efficient.

Waste and Recycling

  • Certified Paper: All our wood-based papers are FSC® or PEFC™ certified, ensuring they are sourced from sustainable forests. Most contain an element of recycled wood or fibre.

  • Lamination Alternatives: We recently introduced printing on synthetic paper. This is a durable, fully recyclable alternative to traditional lamination (which cannot be recycled). We offer this to all clients as a cost-effective, eco-friendly option.

  • Recyclable Stocks: We have reconfigured our paper supplies to emphasise uncoated stocks, which are easier to recycle than coated gloss or silk options.

  • Zero-Waste Initiatives: High-quality blank paper left over from print runs is cut, recycled in-house, and resold as scrap pads.

  • Comprehensive Recycling: 90% of our waste is paper and cardboard, which is collected weekly for recycling. We also separate plastics and aluminium cans. Wooden pallets, boxes, cardboard tubes, and scrap metal are offered free of charge for local reuse and recycling.

  • Digital Proofing: We prioritise digital proofing to keep physical waste to a minimum.

Sustainable Packaging & Supply Chain We are continuously improving our packaging to ensure circularity.

  • Plastic Reduction: In 2022, we switched to paper tape, allowing all outer packaging to be easily recycled.

  • Materials: Our bags, boxes, and envelopes are part-recycled and fully recyclable. We use paper filler wherever possible. While we still use bubble wrap for delicate items, we are actively researching eco-friendly alternatives to reduce plastic usage further.

  • Suppliers: We require our suppliers to maintain excellent ethical and environmental policies. For example, our couriers utilize Net Zero programmes, and some are already fully carbon neutral.

  • Equipment: We have a programme for replacing older machinery with modern, energy-efficient models.

Energy Efficiency

  • Green Power: Our energy supplier provides 100% fossil-free electricity, with over 76% generated from renewable sources.

  • Smart Usage: We monitor energy in real-time via smart apps and ensure all machinery has power-saving functions enabled.

  • Operational Changes: We alternate the usage of large machinery to prevent peak-load energy spikes.

  • Facilities: We have upgraded to low-energy LED lighting throughout the premises and switched to an air conditioning system that reduces gas consumption during winter heating.

Health and Safety Original Copy Centre provides a safe environment for our staff and customers. We conduct full health, safety, and environmental audits annually and comply with all appropriate accident recording and risk assessment procedures. We maintain high standards of hygiene and cleaning protocols to ensure the wellbeing of everyone in our workspace.
