How to print PDF sewing patterns at the correct scale
PDF sewing patterns are often supplied as full-size A0 copyshop files or as smaller A4 pages that must be printed and joined together. Using the A0 version saves time and avoids having to trim and tape numerous sheets.
Check which file you have
Most digital sewing patterns include one or more of the following:
A0 or copyshop PDF
Full-size pattern sheets for professional printing.
A4 or Letter PDF
Tiled pages for printing on a home printer.
Instructions PDF
Sewing guidance rather than the pattern pieces.
For large-format printing, upload the file labelled A0, copyshop or large format. Do not send the tiled A4 version unless that is the only file supplied.
Keep the pattern at the correct scale
Sewing patterns should normally be printed at 100% or Actual Size.
Do not use Fit to Page, Shrink to Fit or another scaling option, as even a small change can affect the finished garment.
Most patterns include a test square, often measuring 5cm or 10cm. Measure this after printing before cutting the pattern pieces.
If the square is the correct size, the rest of the pattern should also be at the intended scale.
If the pattern is marked A0 copyshop, it will usually already be set up at the correct page size. We print the PDF at its saved dimensions unless you ask us to change it.
Check layers and pattern sizes
Some PDF patterns contain layers that allow you to display only the garment size or sizes you need. Open the file in Adobe Acrobat and check the Layers panel before sending it.
Turn off any sizes you do not require, but keep essential information such as grain lines, cutting instructions, notches and page markings visible.
Save a new copy of the PDF after checking it. If you are unsure whether the file has been prepared correctly, send the original PDF rather than taking screenshots or converting the pages into images.
Paper, folding and delivery
Patterns are printed on lightweight plain paper, making them easy to cut, trace and pin to fabric.
Full-size sheets can be machine-folded to approximately A4 for easier delivery and storage.
A0 is the most common copyshop pattern size, although some designs may contain several A0 sheets.
Check the number of pages in the PDF before ordering, as each page is printed as a separate pattern sheet.

Choose the total number of full-size pattern pages required.
Place your order and upload the PDF after checkout.
Include any instructions about quantities, layers or page sizes.
We check the saved PDF page size against the order and will contact you if something appears unclear. We do not automatically resize sewing patterns because this could change the scale.

You can upload your PDF after placing your order. If you have several files or they are too large to upload normally, they can also be sent through our WeTransfer page.
